We’ll pick you up at your hotel in Oaxaca and head to Ocotlán de Morelos, a municipality located about 45 kilometers (27.96 mi) from downtown.
First, we’ll explore the local market, where you can enjoy traditional regional cuisine. With that delicious taste still fresh in our mouths, we’ll head to the Rodolfo Morales Museum, dedicated to this prominent contemporary artist who oversaw the restoration of the former convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán. We’ll view his exhibition, featuring numerous fascinating pieces that perfectly capture the popular culture of Ocotlán.
We’ll continue the trip by visiting the town of San Antonio Castillo Velasco, known as “the land of flowers.” We’ll step inside a workshop where artisans create clay pieces that are sure to impress you. Alongside the master artisan, we’ll learn about the significance of these pieces as well as the secrets behind the delicate techniques used to create the “immortal flower” and the “biushita.”
Afterward, we’ll visit an embroidery workshop. We’ll admire the clothing they craft and embroider by hand, all decorated with the iconic pansy flowers. To recharge your batteries, we’ll give you 1 hour of free time to have lunch at a local restaurant.
With our batteries recharged, we’ll visit the plots of two local flower growers, where we’ll learn all about their work and the flowers they grow. If it’s the right season, we’ll explore the fields and greenhouses.
We’ll wrap up this comprehensive trip by returning to your hotel in Oaxaca 10 hours later.
